Please take note: The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office (FBCSO) was recently informed of an ongoing federal jury duty scam targeting local residents. Scammers have been contacting residents and impersonating personnel from the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office demanding immediate payment to avoid a warrant being issued for their arrest for citation fines. Scammers are also demanding payment for outstanding warrants, ongoing civil matters, and other violations. Please be advised that scammers are calling from local and non-local phone numbers, and they have your information: full name, address, and possibly other personal information. They are also using the FBCSO address (1840 Richmond Parkway, Richmond, TX) as well as FBCSO employee names to further validate the scam. We absolutely CANNOT stress this enough: The Sheriff's Office DOES NOT call anyone requesting money or payment of any kind, for ANY reason! If you receive a call from someone stating they are with the FBCSO, we strongly urge you NOT to agree to make a payment, and NEVER give out any personal information, (social security number, drivers license, or date of birth). Please protect yourself from fraud by refusing to make direct payment to the scammers and to confirm with whom you are speaking. Scammers are prone to using lies, threats, harassment, and intimidation to collect money. As a precaution, please take the following steps to protect yourself from persons who want your personal information to commit identity fraud or to compel you to pay money to them: 1. Activate caller ID and spam protection on your phone so that you have an idea who the caller is. 2. Caller ID is an announcement you can activate to hear the caller before you answer. 3. Scammers will try to create urgency for you to pay money and may impersonate a family member or someone you know. Be careful and cautious if pressure or urgency is made for you to give to a social cause, a charity, or recent natural disaster. Through artificial intelligence, some scammers are able to impersonate the voice of a family member or friend to convince you to pay money. 4. Links or websites texted to your phone may exploit your personal information and lead to theft. 5. Apps or files texted to your phone from an unknown caller may intend to steal your information. 6. Be wary of one-call scams that serve to peak your curiosity so that you are charged a fee when you return the call. If you do not recognize a number, you are not compelled to answer. Some legitimate callers will leave a message so that you can return their call at your convenience. 7. Mark unknown and unauthorized calls as spam so that you are not defrauded. 8. A call blocking app may be able to assist with identifying illegal robocalls, scam calls, or other suspicious calls. You are given a choice on answering these calls. 9. Calls made to inform you that you won a prize are illegitimate if they require you first to pay a fee. 10. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office will not call you to collect money due for a fine or warrant, to post bail for an inmate, or to cover any costs of an emergency. FFORT BEND COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE2+ weeks agoAgencyThe Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force arrested Anthony Sorel Haywood, 42, for the murder of a Houston woman. On Monday, February 19th, 2024, at approximately 3 am the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a deceased female at a residence at the 9300 block of Spindlewood Drive in Houston, Fort Bend County Texas. When Deputies arrived, they found inside the residence the victim Coralyn Hunt, 38 deceased. Three of her children were found without injury. Hunt was found to have been shot to death inside her residence. After further investigation, detectives identified Anthony Sorel Haywood, who had been in a dating relationship with Hunt, as a suspect. On March 1st, 2024, at approximately 1 pm Haywood was located in the 6700 block of Long Point Rd, Houston, Texas and taken into custody by the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force. Haywood is being held on a Murder warrant out of Fort Bend County 434th District Court with a set bond of $1,000,000. "It's a tragedy when someone's life is taken away, especially when at the hands of another human being," said Sheriff Eric fa*gan. "I'd like to thank the investigators for tirelessly working on this case to identify a suspect. I'd also like to thank the task force for their assistance in his arrest."69Like26

But if your new sweetheart only wants to talk about your money and how you should invest it, stop talking. They might be a romance scammer, like those who stole more than $1 billion from people last year. How do the scams start, and what can you do to avoid one? Romance scammers use lots of tricks to meet people. They might find you on a dating site, send you a surprise friend request on social media, or start a chat with you on a gaming site. If you answer, they’ll flood you with attention and want to talk every day. But soon, their focus is on money — meaning your money. The love interest — who’s really a scammer — claims they desperately need you to send them money for an emergency, but the reason they give you is a lie. Or they pressure you to invest in cryptocurrency with their help, but they’re really steering you into an investment scam. If you send or invest money, it’s probably gone forever. Take steps to avoid a romance scammer: Be cautious when you get a surprise direct message or friend request on social media. Try to limit who can see your posts and information by setting some restrictions on your privacy settings.
