When asked what the status of Star Trek: Prodigy's production team is if Netflix orders season 3, Kevin Hageman says they "look forward" to that day, and that they "would love" to come back for whatever iteration of Star Trek: Prodigy Netflix wants, whether it's an animated movie or another 20-episode season 3. Kevin Hageman: Well, it's been a while [since] we finished [season 2]. We don't have offices anymore. We're in our homes right now. I know that everyone in our crew, we had such a delight working on this show. So, I look forward to that day when we can make that call, we get a call from Alex Kurtzman, and they're like, 'Netflix has an appetite [for more Prodigy]'. Whether it's an animated film, a sequel, or if it's a third season. But to be able to call up our crew and actors, I know everyone who can would love to come back.

Star Trek: Prodigy season 3 happening is dependent on audiences watching the next 20 episodes on Netflix once they premiere on July 1st. While Netflix is generally secretive about viewership numbers, it charts the millions of minutes streamed, how shows are binge-watched, and also social media chatter about a series. Kevin and Dan Hageman told Screen Rant that they know Star Trek: Prodigy season 1, which premiered Christmas Day 2023 on Netflix, was "well-watched", but Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 needs ardent viewership, especially in the first week and the first 30 days, for Prodigy to secure a season 3 order.

Kevin and Dan Hageman also brought up the possibility of a Star Trek: Prodigy animated movie potentially being ordered by Netflix in lieu of season 3. Star Trek overseen by Alex Kurtzman's Secret Hideout is now making 2-hour format Star Trek streaming movies, with the first, Star Trek: Section 31, awaiting a release date on Paramount+. But, as the Hagemans pointed out, the Star Trek: Prodigy production offices closed after season 2's episodes were completed. A best case scenario would mean a likely 2-year wait for more Star Trek: Prodigy, whether it's an animated movie or Star Trek: Prodigy season 3. But fans would gladly wait for more Star Trek: Prodigy.
