They were presented at the annual fall assembly last night at Cherokee Country Club. uncOver, the with a Rainbow" little was imagina- the tion, the dancers were in the clouds. Clusters of balloons were from the ballroom's chanceliers just after the last lass stepped through the trellis for her presentation bow. The letters, "Junior Assembly Presents," topped the trellis. Miss "Emcee" Introducing each new member was Jerry Worsham, the group's new president. Jerry's dance frock was off ankle-length navy taffeta, with which she wore high heeled slippers. Jewelry notes were rhinestone earrings and necklace. Standing with Jerry for the formal welcoming were the Assembly officers and board members.

The orchestra's compliment to the new members was "A Pretty Girl Is Like a Melody." Double-dating for dances gets another line in the diaries of Jerry and her guest, Craig Kilpatrick of Sweetwater. They went Chattanooga together last week for the Cotton Ball. School Friends Mary Clarke Webster and her houseguest, Deanie Wallace, were roommates at Ward-Belmont for two years and made it a repeat performance last year at Sophie Newcomb in New Orleans. Deanie came from Jackson, for visit and the dance. It was a trip "back home" for Sandy Spilman, who formerly lived in Knoxville.

He went back down to meet some office appointments feeling as old as Andrew had called him. He was baffled at the skill with which Woodward had set him in the wrong, had placed him in a position to question himself. Malcolm was not clever enough to fight such a man alone.

He'd need help--and he knew where to seek it. There was one person he could count on-always. Martin. He'd go to Martin, ask him to tell him honestly about his migraine. "Miss Perry," said Dr.

Glenn, briskly, as he went into his suite, "will you ask my brother to come into my office?" Already There "He's in there already, Doctor," said Susan. Malcolm strode through the big office, into the examination room beyond. Martin stood staring out of the window, his hand smoothing his dark hair. "I wanted to see you, Marty-" Malcolm began. "I wanted to see you," his brother broke in.

Malcolm took a fresh coat from hanger in his locker. "What about? You sound serious." Martin turned, and leaned his wide shoulders against the window frame. "Darned serious, Doc," he said quietly. "I--I hope you take this thing as I mean it." Malcolm's fingers faltered over the things he was clipping to his pocket--pen, pencil, thermometer, "Let's have it," he said tightly, wondering if Martin, too, was going to advise him to retire. Resignation Again Martin's hand stroked his black hair.

"I thought I should break the news to you privately, Doc. Not spring it on you at the Directors' meeting. Wrong Play May By WILLIAM E. America's Card Authority Written for NEA Service WE have not heard from our friend Sylvia for a long time. Sylvia is the girl who always does the wrong thing, but it always works out right. Here is one of her hands for you. On the opening spade lead East went up with the ace and Sylvia (South) dropped the king.

East returned a small heart and Sylvia won with the jack. Now she realized that if the king of diamonds was on her left, she was all right; but if she led a diamond a and East won, undobtedly he would return another trump--and Sylvia would not be to trump any diamonds. At this point she led the jack of spades, then took three rounds of trumps. Now she had one entry into dummy, the ace of clubs, and then she could discard a diamond on the queen of spades. But she still would lose three diamond tricks.

Should she lead toward the queen of diamonds and hope Not Sylvia. led the eight of that the king, was on her left? In the Hospitals A Avenue. Mrs. Marcus Lane, Route 8, Byrd. 112 Vermont Avenue.

And I'm pretty sure the time has come for me to separate from you, and to try to make something of a professional name and identity for myself. You see, Doc, here in the Lair, I'm Dr. Malcolm Glenn's brother, and always will be." Be Missed Malcolm stooped to pick up his discarded jacket; he put it down the chute and closed the little door very carefully. "You're right. I expect, Marty," he said slowly.

"I'll. miss you like the dickens, but I do want to be fair. You're probably as right as rain -you should get out, And I'll do nothing to stand in way. Will you take Susan you youen go?" Martin lifted one shoulder. "If she'd go, I'd take her." "Won't she go? Have you asked her? I mean, have you told her you're leaving?" "No, I wanted you to know first.

But--I don't need to tell her, or ask her. I don't believe she'd leave you." His dark face was bitter. "That isn't right, Marty!" Martin's hand reached for the knob of the door which connected this room with his own inner office. "You know well it isn't right!" he cried. Would Be Others Jerry thought, "I'll bet I barge in on Doc just at the wrong minute." He really should have waited till he got home, but at home, there'd be Nanny, and the others to put in their two cents worth.

This decision of his was strictly between Doc and himself. Still hobbling around with the help of a cane, he stumped through the hospital lobby, down the hall. At the office door, his father was talking to a departing patient. Jerry stood aside until he had finished when, at Malcolm's nod, he went into the office. "Sit down, Jerry.

Is there something special on your mind?" Malcolm asked in an absentminded tone. Jerry marked out pattern of the soft rug with the rubber ferrule of his cane. "It was something special, Doc," he said gruffly. Wants Change Malcolm sat down at his desk, took off his glasses. "Let's have it," he said, his tone kind.

Jerry's flat cheeks flushed. "I- Doc, I want to change over from the study of medicine to something else." There! It was out! Now he need just sit back and answer Doc's arguments. He had not thought his father Stamps' BLUE RIDGE QUARTET Concert Programs Walland Hi p.m. the and Me would look so stunned. As it Jerry had struck below the belt.

"Doc, I-" the young man faltered. Malcolm rubbed his hand over his eyes. "This hits me pretty hard, Jerry. I had made some rather rosy plans you and your professional career." "I know, sir. I-it's just that I'm not sure I was meant to be a doctor.

There are so many years of work ahead-and when you're not sure-why, I'd be too old to start anything else-" Agreement "What else do you want to do?" Malcolm inquired. "I'm not sure of that either-" Jerry admitted unhappily. Malcolm said then, "will you do one thing for me?" "If I can Doc." said the young man readily. "I'd like you to finish this present term. That will give you a little time to think over this idea, to see if it really is the decision you want to make." Jerry looked thoughtful, then he nodded.

Doc," he said in a tone of relief, "I'll do that for your sake." Malcolm smiled, as if he were very weary. "I was asking you to do it for your own sake, Jerry." MONDAY: Martin challenges Susan.
